VEARSE FARM –IMPORTANT MEETING !!

Hallam Land have now submitted their application for Outline Planning Permission . It will be considered by WDDC in January.

However there is an important meeting of the Plans Committee of Bridport Town Council . This will be held at the Town Hall at 7.00 on Monday 9th November . There will be an opportunity at the start for members of the Public to speak.

If you wish to speak  phone to request a slot 01308 456722

It is really important we get a good turnout here. BTC would like to see a strong presence . With organisations such as Highways England, Environment Agency and CPRE all raising significant objections to outline planning permission we are not alone and need to give every encouragement to BTC to reject the plan.

Please forward to anyone else you think would be interested .

  1. I strongly object to the Hallam Land planning application it does not relate to the local population’s needs . Hallam Land has been misleading and untruthful with it’s suggestion that the infrastructure for such a development already exists,it patently doesn’t. I do believe that building so many houses, and the majority, out of local people’s reach will turn out to be the cuckoo in Bridport’s cosy nest. At present Bridport is thriving let’s keep it that way.

  2. I think the Vearse Farm Development should go ahead and don’t know why people are against it Bridport needs more affordable Housing I’m for it

    1. Hi Gemma,
Unfortunately, there is not a guarantee that low-cost, affordable housing will definitely be built at Vearse Farm. This requirement is not supported by any current legislation.
West Dorset District Council originally included “… a “minimum” of 35% of affordable houses would be built, however the word “minimum” was removed from the Local Plan, in its Main Modifications protocol. The subsequent published Local Plan in October 2015, has “minimum” omitted.
ADVEARSE members attended a meeting in September 2015, whereby Hallam Land Group (the developer) were quoted in saying”….low-cost housing would only be built, if deemed viable !”

    2. Careful, careful, Gemma. If Vearse Farm development guaranteed affordable housing for all those so desperately in need then I and many others would be much less cautious about it. But the truth is, as things stand there is nothing to stop the developers filling the site with 500 profit-making homes, many of which are likely to be bought by grey-haired incomers, bless ’em. The “affordable” homes which are built may not really be affordable round here, there’s such a big gap between wages and house prices.
I’m one of those who would find that development tolerable provided it serves the needs of local people – that seems a reasonable payback for building such a huge edge-of-town development which we neither asked for nor need.

  3. Not only an issue of housing I’m afraid, I went to the heath centre today and it was heaving caos in the car park and queues everywhere.
How will they cope with a potential 1500 new patients?
