  1. I have just seen the plans for the Vearse Farm site and am appalled at the scale of the planned development. While quite in agreement that more affordable homes are required in the Bridport Area the development at present is much more concerned with profitable new builds that will be bought by retired people or, even worse as second homes and remain empty for the majority of the time! Although the drawings of the executive houses look quite pleasant the development on the North West corner looks more like a series of cell blocks! The access roads are quite ridiculous, crossing, as they do, the flood plain which does indeed flood very regularly. Western road, which is supposed to accept all this traffic, is very busy already and the extra vehicular ingress would make life very unpleasant for the people of Bridport. The main problem, however, is the scale of development to be imposed on the town of Bridport. There is very little employment in the town, medical services are stretched to capacity already, schools are full and although there are plans to build a primary school in the development secondary education would inevitably suffer. The town is already at full capacity and surely we should not be building in an AONB anyway. We are all aware of the need for low cost housing but this development smacks of profiteering of the worst sort and the sort of greed exhibited by both land-owners and developers. I feel that the Council should think again before forcing such a development upon a delightful and historic country town.
